ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has promised to make life more affordable for Nigerians if elected in 2027, accusing President Bola Tinubu’s administration of driving up the cost of living and leaving families and businesses under increasing financial pressure.
The former vice-president made the remarks in a statement released on Sunday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, as he urged Nigerians to vote against Tinubu in the next presidential election.
Atiku said the effects of the administration’s economic policies could be seen in the prices Nigerians pay for fuel, food and transportation. He also claimed that businesses had become weaker while households were left with less money after meeting their basic expenses.
According to the ADC candidate, Nigerians have moved beyond the need for government appeals to remain patient and instead require concrete measures that can provide relief from the economic challenges confronting them.
He argued that the country now faces a choice between continuing with economic policies that he believes take more money from citizens or pursuing an alternative approach aimed at putting more purchasing power back into the hands of Nigerians.
Atiku said his proposed economic direction would focus on increasing production within the country, refining petroleum products locally and creating jobs for Nigerians. He argued that strengthening domestic production could help reduce dependence on costly imports and ease pressure on consumers.
The former vice-president also called for policies capable of lowering the cost of living, saying Nigerians should be able to afford essential goods and services without exhausting their incomes.
He stressed that the objective should be an economy where Nigeria produces more while citizens pay less and families have money left after taking care of their basic needs.
Atiku consequently urged voters to reject what he described as an administration that had made life more difficult and embrace his proposed alternative ahead of the 2027 election.
He ended with a direct political message, saying Tinubu had made life expensive while promising that an Atiku administration would seek to make it affordable again.
