Senator Victor Umeh has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and support a younger candidate within the African Democratic Congress.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Umeh said although Atiku remains a respected political figure, it is important for him to begin nurturing a new generation of leaders who can take over the reins of leadership.
According to him, the former vice president’s continued ambition, despite several past attempts, raises concerns about the willingness of established politicians to make way for emerging voices.
Umeh argued that younger aspirants are bringing forward innovative ideas that align with the expectations of Nigerians, adding that leadership renewal is necessary for meaningful progress.
He warned that a prolonged contest among top opposition figures could create divisions within the party, weaken cohesion, and ultimately affect its performance in the next general election.
The senator maintained that building a united front requires compromise, urging party leaders to prioritise collective success over individual ambition.
