Former APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Timi Frank, has called on Nigerian youths to follow Davido’s example ahead of the 2027 election, arguing that the outcome of the Osun poll shows voters can challenge President Bola Tinubu at the ballot box.
Frank made the statement on Monday following Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the Osun governorship election, where the Accord Party candidate defeated APC’s Bola Oyebamiji.
The former APC spokesman pointed to Davido’s prominent support for his uncle during the Osun election as an example of how young Nigerians and celebrities could become more involved in political affairs. He said the election demonstrated the influence citizens could have when they remain committed to their choices.
Frank described the Osun result as evidence of the power of the electorate and a possible signal ahead of the 2027 general election. He said political pressure and other challenges could be overcome when voters were determined to defend their decisions at the polls.
He argued that Nigerians should not assume the result of the next presidential election has already been decided, stressing that the power to determine the outcome ultimately belongs to the electorate. He therefore urged citizens to turn out in 2027, remain at their polling units and follow the counting of their votes.
The former APC chieftain also commended Osun voters for what he called political ingenuity, claiming that some citizens could collect money offered during elections while still voting for candidates of their choice. He argued that such funds ultimately came from public resources and belonged to the citizens.
Frank subsequently appealed directly to Nigerian youths and celebrities to become more active in the country’s political process. He urged them to take inspiration from Davido, saying the time had come for young Nigerians to reject political apathy and participate more actively in deciding the country’s future.
“President Tinubu may think he already has his election results in mind, but ultimately, it is the Nigerian people who will decide his fate through the power of their votes,” Frank said.
He urged Nigerians to ensure that the 2027 election would not be business as usual, calling on voters to participate fully and remain vigilant until their votes were counted. According to him, the political future of Nigeria should be determined by its citizens.
