The African Action Congress has strongly condemned what it describes as a threat issued by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, against media personality Seun Okinbaloye.

The party described the alleged remark as dangerous and irresponsible, warning that such conduct undermines press freedom and weakens democratic accountability in Nigeria.

According to the AAC, the incident reflects a broader pattern of intimidation often linked to the minister’s public conduct. The party noted that past reports have associated Wike with hostile rhetoric and actions targeting electoral officials and political actors, particularly during his time in Rivers State.

It further recalled allegations from previous years, including widely circulated audio recordings in which Wike was reportedly heard issuing threats against officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The AAC argued that these claims, combined with the current controversy, raise serious concerns that cannot be ignored.

The party urged security agencies to act swiftly and impartially, stressing that no individual should be above the law regardless of political status or influence.

It also called for a full investigation into the matter, insisting that any credible evidence of wrongdoing must lead to prosecution.

The AAC concluded by warning that democracy cannot thrive where journalists face intimidation, adding that safeguarding civil liberties remains essential to national stability.
