A sweeping leadership shake-up is unfolding inside the Nigeria Police Force as Deputy Inspector-General Frank Mba and several other senior officers prepare to retire following the appointment of Tunji Disu as the new Inspector-General of Police.

The changes come after the departure of former police boss Kayode Egbetokun, whose exit paved the way for Disu to be sworn in as Nigeria’s 23rd indigenous police chief.

Behind the scenes at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, sources say the affected Deputy Inspectors-General have already started making quiet preparations to leave office.

Some have reportedly begun clearing their offices while waiting for the official signal confirming their retirement from the force.

At the same time, seven Assistant Inspectors-General are lining up for promotion examinations before the Police Service Commission, a move expected to reshape the police hierarchy.

Those listed for possible elevation include Margreth Ochalla, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Ishiaku Mohammed, Zachariah Fera, Zango Ibrahim, Umar Shehu Nadada, and Muhammed Abdul Sulaiman.

If approved, their promotion will open the door for the retirement of the current Deputy Inspectors-General and mark the first major leadership restructuring under Disu’s command.
