The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approved the confirmation of appointment for 1,659 workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The workers were among 2,281 candidates who participated in a confirmation examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission on February 28, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Sunday, the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh, disclosed that 2,512 candidates were originally invited for the exercise but only 2,281 attended.
He said 224 officers failed to appear for the examination, raising suspicions that some of them might be ghost workers within the system.
Ezeh explained that some of the workers who sat for the examination were first employed as far back as 2016 and 2019, while others were recruited shortly before Wike assumed office as minister in August 2023.
The commission also revealed that arrangements have been completed to conduct both the 2025 and 2026 promotion exercises after receiving approval from the minister.
The promotion exercises are expected to support staff welfare and career progression within the FCT civil service.
Workers who participated in the confirmation examination have been advised to check the commission’s website to confirm the status of their results.
Earlier in January, Wike approved the immediate promotion of more than 2,000 FCTA workers after promotion examinations held between November 25 and 29, 2025.
