The FCT Police Command has revealed fresh details surrounding the discovery of a man’s lifeless body under a bridge, saying investigators traced the case to a Gwarimpa hotel where the deceased had allegedly stayed before his body was moved.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, made the disclosure during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters on September 26, 2026.

The deceased was found on August 26 along the Kubwa Expressway by Katampe under the bridge, prompting widespread speculation that he may have been a victim of kidnapping or “One Chance” robbery.

The Commissioner said the case had attracted concern because similar discoveries of bodies in the FCT had often been immediately associated with violent crimes.

However, investigators discovered that the man had already been reported missing by his family before his body was found.

According to the police, painstaking investigation eventually established that the body belonged to the missing man.

Investigators then discovered that his mobile phone was missing and began tracing the device and examining his last known communications.

The trail allegedly led investigators to Mrs Rukayat Muhammed, a resident of Garki Area 2, whom the police identified as the deceased’s romantic partner.

The Command said the investigation further established that Rukayat and the deceased had lodged at Good Samaritan Guest House in the Gwarimpa area.

Police alleged that Rukayat discovered that the deceased was no longer breathing and had died, but left the hotel with his mobile phone rather than immediately reporting the incident to the police.

The Commissioner said hotel management later entered the room after attempts to contact the occupants failed and discovered the lifeless body.

According to the police, two hotel management staff, Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, allegedly removed the body from the room and transported it to the Kubwa Expressway by Katampe under the bridge, where it was dumped.

The police, however, stressed that the investigation has not established the exact cause and circumstances of the man’s death.

The Command said further investigative processes were underway and warned that anyone found to have participated in the death or subsequent concealment and abandonment of the body would be prosecuted.

The Commissioner also announced the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and two magazines during an investigation into a suspected kidnapping syndicate.

Police said the weapons were recovered from a hideout in Kagarko Forest after suspect Musbahu Ishak allegedly led investigators there following his arrest.

The operatives were reportedly ambushed by suspected members of the gang while leaving the forest, resulting in a gun battle in which a police officer was injured.

Ishak also sustained gunshot injuries and was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Command.

In a separate operation, police said two suspected “One Chance” robbery suspects were arrested after their Toyota Camry was intercepted around Court of Appeal Junction.

Nine Android phones and other items were allegedly recovered from the vehicle, while a suspected receiver identified as Osondu Benard was subsequently arrested at NPC Junction, Nyanya. The FCT Police Command said all the suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded, while residents were urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities.
