The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has intervened in the ongoing teachers’ strike, directing immediate payment of allowances and salaries to affected workers.

Wike announced the move after a meeting with officials of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, aimed at resolving the lingering crisis.

He said funds originally allocated to area councils had been redirected to ensure that outstanding entitlements are paid without further delay.

The minister also highlighted lapses in previous negotiations, stressing the need for a more inclusive approach involving all relevant stakeholders.

He warned that prolonged strike action could negatively affect students, reiterating the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the education system.

Despite the intervention, the NUT said the strike remains in force for now, pending further deliberations by its leadership.

The union has been demanding the implementation of salary increments, payment of allowances, and resolution of other welfare concerns affecting teachers in the FCT.
