Former Super Eagles midfielder Henry Nwosu has died at the age of 62, the Nigerian football community has confirmed.
Segun Odegbami, a former teammate and 1980 AFCON champion, announced the death on Saturday morning through his social media platforms.
Odegbami stated that Nwosu, nicknamed the ‘Youngest Millionaire,’ passed away at 4:00 am after five days in hospital at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, where he had been in intensive care.
Nwosu was celebrated as the youngest player in Nigeria’s 1980 Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad, remembered for his technical skill, creativity, and ability to control the midfield.
After retiring from professional football, Nwosu continued to nurture young talents as a coach and mentor, leaving a legacy that inspired future generations of Nigerian footballers.
His passing follows closely on the heels of the death of former Super Eagles coach Adegboye Onigbinde, who guided Nigeria in the early 1980s and passed away on March 9 at age 88.
