Nyesom Wike has warned APC governors and other members of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council not to claim victory in the 2027 presidential election if they cannot deliver their respective states for President Bola Tinubu.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory issued the warning on Wednesday at the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, following his appointment as coordinator for the FCT and Rivers State.

Wike said every member of the campaign team must concentrate on securing Tinubu’s re-election, regardless of their official positions. He argued that the central objective was to win votes for the President rather than focus on titles within the council.

The minister promised to mobilise support for Tinubu in Rivers State and the FCT, declaring that both territories would vote massively for the President.

He made it clear that campaign officials should be accountable for their performance in the states they were expected to deliver. According to Wike, members should not celebrate a national victory without taking responsibility for the results in their own areas.

“If you don’t deliver your states and the president wins, don’t say we’ve won,” he warned, stressing that the campaign’s success should not be measured by an individual’s position as chairman, secretary or member.

Wike also used Lagos as an example, recalling that he had told the President’s Chief of Staff that the campaign team should not claim victory if Tinubu failed to win the state.

The minister praised Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke for attending the inauguration, noting their presence as a sign of support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.

He also defended the administration’s performance, arguing that past governments had identified Nigeria’s problems without resolving them. Wike said the opposition should focus on pointing out genuine shortcomings and proposing solutions instead of criticising the government merely because it was in power.
