The Independent National Electoral Commission is set to engage Nigerians and major electoral stakeholders on Tuesday as preparations for the 2027 general elections enter the final 100-day stretch.

The commission will hold a World Press Conference and national stakeholders’ meeting on October 6 at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, with INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, expected to lead the briefing.

The commission said the meeting would provide an opportunity to update the public on preparations for the elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures designed to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

INEC said the engagement would also strengthen communication between the commission and institutions whose roles are central to the successful conduct and security of the elections.

The gathering is expected to bring together political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps and development partners.

Civil society organisations and election observer groups will also participate, alongside disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives.

The commission said the broad participation was part of its effort to promote transparency, public communication and collaboration across the electoral ecosystem as preparations intensify.

The meeting comes at a significant stage of the election calendar, with INEC working through administrative, logistical and technological preparations ahead of the 2027 polls.

Under INEC’s published timetable, the presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for February 20, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for March 6, 2027.

The commission has not said that the October 6 engagement will feature any alteration to the election timetable. Its stated focus is to provide updates on preparations and deepen engagement with stakeholders.

The event is scheduled for 10am at the Abuja conference centre and will be broadcast live on major national television networks. INEC also said it would stream the proceedings on its official social media platforms.

Physical attendance will be restricted to invited participants, while accredited journalists and invited guests will be required to present their accreditation badges or invitation cards at security checkpoints.
