Former Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, Tukur Buratai has maintained that insurgents are not overwhelming Nigerian troops, insisting that the military continues to maintain control despite challenges in the fight against insecurity.
He noted that the introduction of drones and other operational tools has enhanced the military’s effectiveness in tackling threats.
Buratai emphasised the need for additional resources, saying current capabilities must be expanded to sustain progress.
He highlighted the size of the Northeast as a key factor complicating military operations in the region.
According to him, the wide deployment of troops across the area creates pressure on available manpower.
He added that equipment limitations also remain a concern for sustained operations.
Buratai, however, maintained that the military is coping and remains committed to addressing insurgency and banditry.
