Amid rising insecurity, Nigeria’s army and police chiefs have declared stronger collaboration essential to restoring peace, stressing that only a united front can effectively confront the nation’s growing threats.
Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, emphasised the importance of joint efforts when he hosted the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, in Abuja.
The police boss used the visit to stress that closer cooperation between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force is essential for tackling internal threats more effectively.
Disu applauded the existing relationship between both agencies, noting that their collaboration has remained vital in maintaining national stability. He specifically commended the Army for its contribution to training Police Mobile Force personnel, which he said has boosted field performance.
He further pledged that the police would continue to share intelligence and coordinate operations with the military to strengthen security nationwide.
Shaibu, in his remarks, welcomed the IGP and expressed confidence in sustained collaboration. He pointed to their previous joint service in Darfur as evidence of a long-standing professional bond built in challenging environments.
The Army chief also recognised the role of the police in supporting operations in parts of the country affected by banditry and kidnapping, particularly in Kogi, Kwara and Niger states.
According to him, Nigeria can only achieve lasting peace when security agencies work together in a unified and structured system.
