Yoruba nation campaigner Sunday Igboho has accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of denying his security outfit permission to pursue kidnappers, insisting he can help secure the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers.
Speaking during a meeting with leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Igboho maintained that his security outfit is prepared to enter the forests and challenge the kidnappers if given the green light by authorities.
He alleged that certain politicians are sponsoring criminal groups responsible for attacks and kidnappings across parts of the country, describing the security crisis as a problem worsened by political interests.
The activist further claimed he may publicly identify those allegedly backing the criminals if they fail to withdraw their support.
Igboho said he had already communicated his willingness to assist security agencies and remains convinced that the abductors can be confronted successfully.
However, he criticised the Oyo State Government’s decision to require approval for private security groups, arguing that the policy has prevented his Iru Ekun Security Network from participating in rescue efforts.
The abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area has generated nationwide concern, especially following the reported killing of one of the victims and the continued captivity of others.
