Governor Seyi Makinde has called for intensified rescue operations after pupils and teachers kidnapped from schools in Oyo State remained in captivity for one month.

The governor made the call on Monday during a meeting with Deputy Inspector General of Police Olatoye Fayoade in Ibadan. The police chief visited the state as part of a nationwide security assessment ordered by the Inspector General of Police.

Reflecting on the abduction, Makinde said the incident has caused enormous pain and anxiety across the state. He lamented that the victims had remained in the hands of their captors for an entire month despite ongoing rescue efforts.

The governor stressed that tackling the crisis requires sustained cooperation among all security institutions and governments. He reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to provide any support needed to boost police operations.

Makinde also commended security personnel for their sacrifices despite operational difficulties. He noted that Oyo’s vast land area presents unique policing challenges but expressed confidence that stronger collaboration would deliver results.

In his remarks, Fayoade conveyed the goodwill of the Inspector General of Police and assured residents that the force remained fully focused on rescuing the abducted pupils and teachers.

He disclosed that security agencies had already reinforced surveillance and operational measures across the state to prevent further criminal attacks capable of disrupting peace and development.

The DIG further directed police commanders to intensify efforts to protect lives, property and critical infrastructure, pledging that the force would continue working to ensure that incidents like the Oriire school abduction do not happen again.
