Human rights lawyer Abubakar Marshal has petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, alleging torture and religious persecution of traditional worshippers in Anambra State.
The petition centres on the alleged abduction and detention of Ezenagu John Paul Ikechukwu, who was reportedly taken from his residence in Nnewi by suspected militia operatives.
Marshal accused the Agunechemba militia, said to be linked to the government of Chukwuma Soludo, of carrying out unlawful detention, torture, and extortion.
He maintained that such actions breach constitutional guarantees on freedom of religion and protections against discrimination.
The lawyer urged the AGF to order a full investigation, ensure the release of the victim for medical care, and prosecute any officials found culpable.
The petition also raised broader concerns about the conduct of local security outfits in the state amid ongoing efforts to curb crime and alleged ritual activities.
