The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s approval of four new Army divisions and 28,000 additional recruits, saying the expansion will enhance the military’s ability to combat terrorism, banditry and other security threats nationwide.
In a statement signed by NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the forum said the development would strengthen Nigeria’s counterterrorism and anti-banditry efforts.
The governors described the expansion as the largest single growth of the Nigerian Army in recent history and said it demonstrates renewed commitment to national security.
The forum also welcomed the approval for the recruitment of 28,000 additional Army personnel and the acquisition of more military equipment.
According to the NGF, the measures will improve the military’s operational effectiveness and its ability to respond to security challenges across the country.
The governors pledged continued support for the Federal Government in addressing insecurity and promoting national development.
They further urged Nigerians to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could help prevent and combat criminal activities.
