Nigeria and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to stronger security collaboration following a meeting between National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Frank Garcia in Abuja.

The meeting took place in Abuja during Garcia’s first official visit to Nigeria since his confirmation as the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs in June 2026.

According to Ribadu, discussions reviewed the progress achieved under the Nigeria-US Joint Working Group while reaffirming both countries’ commitment to stronger dialogue and collaboration on shared security interests.

He said the engagement reflects the enduring partnership between Nigeria and the United States and their determination to strengthen cooperation in addressing evolving security challenges.

Garcia’s visit is part of a broader diplomatic tour of West Africa, with scheduled visits to Côte d’Ivoire and Mali.

A retired US Navy officer with 28 years of service, Garcia previously held senior intelligence advisory positions before assuming his current role at the US State Department.
