Former Edo State governor Adams Oshiomhole says Nigeria must protect its citizens first, insisting that foreign investment should not outweigh the lives of Nigerians attacked in South Africa.

During an interview on Arise News, the Edo North senator said Nigeria should consider taking control of companies linked to South African investors if attacks on Nigerians continue.

Oshiomhole specifically defended his earlier position on MTN and other firms, arguing that the country cannot continue to prioritise business interests while Nigerians are being killed abroad.

He stated that Nigerian shareholders could maintain ownership stakes while South African control and profit interests are removed from affected companies.

The senator also claimed that previous diplomatic agreements between Nigeria and South Africa failed to stop repeated attacks on Nigerians.

According to him, no meaningful accountability has followed the violence despite several incidents over the years.

Oshiomhole insisted that the protection of Nigerian citizens must remain more important than preserving foreign investment relations.
