The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed as untrue reports suggesting that one of the schoolchildren kidnapped during the attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area lost their life in captivity, insisting that the claim is fabricated and intended to spread fear among residents.

Reacting to the publication on Friday, the command said the story was a deliberate fabrication designed to mislead the public and generate unnecessary panic.

Police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, stated that no security agency involved in the ongoing rescue mission had confirmed the death of any abducted child.

He said the report relied on speculation and emotional narratives aimed at creating confusion while security operatives continue efforts to rescue the victims.

The command warned that false information could jeopardise ongoing operations and further traumatise families whose loved ones remain in captivity.

It also advised journalists, bloggers and social media influencers to verify security related information before publication to avoid spreading misinformation.

The police appealed to residents to remain calm and ignore the report, stressing that security agencies remain committed to securing the release of all abducted victims.

The command assured the public that verified updates would continue to be provided through official communication channels as rescue efforts progress.
