Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has declared his support for the Edo State Government’s plan to introduce the death penalty for kidnappers and bandits as part of efforts to tackle insecurity.

Speaking during the All Progressives Congress campaign for the forthcoming local government election in Edo North Senatorial District, Oshiomhole maintained that states are empowered to enact laws that prescribe penalties for offences committed within their territories.

He argued that law abiding residents have nothing to fear, adding that only those involved in criminal activities should be worried by the proposed legislation targeting kidnappers and bandits.

The senator also reaffirmed his position on state police, saying a decentralised policing system would complement the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and improve security nationwide.

Governor Monday Okpebholo used the campaign to highlight his administration’s achievements, pointing to investments in roads, schools, markets and other infrastructure aimed at improving living standards across Edo State.

The governor praised President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, especially the removal of fuel subsidy, which he said has increased revenue available to states for developmental projects.

Okpebholo encouraged party members to campaign vigorously for the All Progressives Congress in the local government election and expressed confidence that the party would secure overwhelming support ahead of the 2027 general election.
