Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu has urged Nigerians to work closely with security agencies to improve safety and tackle insecurity across the country.

The police boss made the call on Thursday during the 42nd anniversary celebration of the Police Community Relations Committee held in Abuja.

Represented by DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Disu said policing works better when communities actively support law enforcement agencies through trust, cooperation and information sharing.

He described the PCRC as one of the strongest pillars of community policing in Nigeria, noting that the committee has helped strengthen relations between citizens and the police for decades.

According to the IGP, the future of national security depends on proactive policing, intelligence gathering, technology and stronger engagement with the public.

Disu warned that security reforms and policing strategies would fail without citizens participating fully in efforts aimed at protecting lives and communities.

He further encouraged the PCRC to adapt to modern realities by embracing new technologies and stronger partnerships that would improve community policing nationwide.

Meanwhile, PCRC National Chairman Mogaji Olaniyan said the organisation had continued to expand its presence internationally while supporting police officers through welfare and assistance programmes.
