Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu has directed police commands across the country to intensify operations against motorists using unregistered vehicles or vehicles with concealed registration numbers.

Speaking at a meeting with senior police officers in Abuja, the IGP said authorities can no longer tolerate violations of vehicle registration laws because of the security implications attached to such practices.

He explained that properly registered vehicles help law enforcement agencies track criminal activities, gather intelligence, and respond effectively to security threats.

According to Egbetokun, many criminals take advantage of vehicles without traceable identification to carry out kidnappings, terrorism, and other crimes while avoiding detection.

The police chief therefore instructed all operational commanders to enforce the directive immediately and ensure that offending vehicles are stopped and subjected to legal procedures.

He warned officers against selective enforcement, stressing that the law must apply equally to all road users regardless of status or influence.

Egbetokun further praised the Federal Government’s support for ongoing police reforms and urged senior officers to strengthen intelligence gathering, collaboration, and community engagement to improve security nationwide.
