The Nigeria Police Force has summoned Assistant Superintendent of Police Newton Isokpehi after a viral video captured him threatening Nigerians who filmed police officers on duty.
The police announced on Thursday that disciplinary procedures had already commenced against the officer over what it described as unacceptable conduct.
In an official statement, the Force condemned the officer’s remarks, saying they violated the professional ethics and operational standards expected from police personnel.
The police also stated that the actions shown in the video contradict ongoing reform efforts focused on transparency, accountability, and citizen friendly policing.
According to the Force, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu has consistently supported the rights of Nigerians to lawfully record police activities as long as such recordings do not interfere with official duties or security operations.
Authorities confirmed that the officer has been directed to appear before the Anambra State Police Command Headquarters where disciplinary measures are now underway.
The police warned that threats, intimidation, and abuse of authority by officers would not be tolerated under any circumstance.
The Force further reassured the public that recording police operations remains lawful and should never attract harassment or intimidation from security personnel.
It added that the final outcome of the disciplinary investigation would be communicated to Nigerians after the process is concluded.
