Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has alleged that a presidential aide, Sunday Asefon, and an in-law of President Bola Tinubu were involved in the attack on him in Ekiti State.

The human rights activist made the allegation in a statement shared on his verified X account on Monday, where he narrated his experience during the incident involving suspected political thugs.

Sowore alleged that the assault was deliberately organised to intimidate him and punish him for his continued criticism of the Federal Government.

He specifically accused Asefon and the President’s in-law of playing roles in mobilising the individuals who allegedly attacked him, insisting that the incident was not an ordinary confrontation.

“It was not just a random attack, Tinubu’s aide and in-law were involved in my attack in Ekiti,” he declared.

The AAC chieftain suggested that the alleged attack was part of an attempt to suppress his voice and prevent him from challenging what he considers poor governance under the Tinubu administration.

He, however, vowed to remain vocal despite the incident, insisting that intimidation would not derail his commitment to fighting for justice and good governance in Nigeria.

Following the allegation, Sowore urged the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to investigate the incident without delay and prosecute anyone found to have participated in the attack.

Meanwhile, Asefon had yet to issue a public response to the accusation as of the time of filing this report. Sowore also did not disclose the evidence backing his claim that the presidential aide and the President’s in-law were involved.
