President Bola Tinubu has warned Nigerians against violence and banditry, insisting that no religion permits the killing of innocent people or encourages criminal acts in society.

Tinubu gave the warning on Wednesday after attending Eid el Kabir prayers at Dodan Barracks in Lagos, where he called for unity, peace and tolerance across the country.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the Eid celebration represents sacrifice, obedience and submission to the will of Allah as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim.

He urged Nigerians to stay away from ethnic hatred, discrimination and violence, stressing that no holy teaching supports taking human lives or spreading terror in communities.

According to Tinubu, the story of sacrifice in Islam clearly shows the importance attached to human life, noting that God replaced a child with an animal, proving that life must be valued and protected.

The President also encouraged citizens to spread love, kindness and generosity during the Sallah celebration in ways that reflect humanity and national unity.

Tinubu advised Nigerians to respect the rule of law and remain tolerant of one another despite political, ethnic or religious differences. He maintained that the country’s diversity should serve as a unifying force rather than a source of division.

He further stressed that peace and national development remain more important than sentiments capable of creating conflict among Nigerians.

Meanwhile, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh Sulaimon Abou Nolla, urged Muslims to fear Allah and continue promoting sacrifice, unity and generosity in society.

Among those who joined the President for the prayers were Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu, former Governor Babatunde Fashola, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, Femi Gbajabiamila and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
