President Bola Tinubu says his administration will continue to strengthen Nigeria’s naval capacity after commissioning three new vessels and praising the Navy’s performance in safeguarding maritime interests.
Tinubu made the remarks during the International Fleet Review held as part of the Nigerian Navy’s anniversary celebration, where he also lauded the service for its steady progress over the decades.
He described the Nigerian Navy as a key pillar in protecting Nigeria’s economic and territorial interests, noting its evolution from a small colonial maritime unit into a modern and capable force.
The President praised the Navy’s role in reducing piracy, illegal oil bunkering and other maritime crimes, saying the gains have supported economic growth and improved security in coastal areas.
According to him, improved surveillance systems and rapid response operations have helped secure Nigeria’s waters and restore confidence in maritime trade and investment.
Tinubu also commended international partners for their cooperation in enhancing security across the Gulf of Guinea, describing the collaboration as essential to regional stability.
He urged naval personnel to remain committed to professionalism and continue adapting to emerging security challenges in both maritime and inland operations.
The President assured that his administration would sustain investments in naval infrastructure, training and equipment to ensure long term maritime safety.
The ceremony also featured naval representatives from several countries and showcased coordinated maritime exercises aimed at strengthening global naval cooperation.
