FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has formally granted lands to members of the Council of Traditional Rulers and eliminated all statutory charges on their titles, honoring their historical and civic contributions. The initiative follows instructions from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Addressing the gathering in Abuja on Friday, Wike emphasized the need to recognize indigenous residents who lived in the territory before its establishment. “Our traditional leaders have ensured peace and stability. It is only right we reward their dedication with land,” he stated.

Highlighting the unprecedented calm during the recent Area Council elections, Wike said the leaders’ efforts were critical. To further empower them, he pledged to supply utility vehicles to enhance their community services.

The minister also spotlighted several infrastructure projects aimed at improving satellite towns, including work on the Airport–Kuje road, Bwari–Zuba link, Apo/Karshi, Basan Jiwa, and the Arab Road network. He stressed that asking traditional rulers to pay for land already occupied by their ancestors would be unjust.

Ona of Abaji and Council Chairman Adamu Yunusa expressed gratitude to both the President and Minister Wike, promising that traditional institutions would continue supporting federal policies.

This gesture underscores the ongoing collaboration between the federal government and traditional institutions in local governance, land management, and election oversight.
